Manchester United forced to recall striker out on loan

Manchester United have recalled striker Will Keane from his loan spell with Preston North End as the club continue to struggle for goals, as reported by Sky Sports.

Keane joined the Championship side on a season-long loan deal in the summer, and has scored two goals in 22 appearances ahead of his return to Old Trafford.

Based on that record, it remains to be seen whether or not he is able to contribute to help United end their goalscoring troubles, with Louis van Gaal’s side scoring just 22 in their 19 Premier League outings.

Only six teams in the entire league have scored less goals so far this season, and in turn it has been part of the problem that has plagued the Dutchman as the pressure began to build on him during a disastrous December.

Ahead of facing Swansea City this weekend, United are without a win in eight games in all competitions which has contributed to the fact that they have been eliminated from the Champions League and have fallen out of the top four in the league.

Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial have each scored seven goals in all competitions, while the French international and Juan Mata are joint leading scorers in the league with four apiece.

Van Gaal has been heavily criticised for his decisions in the transfer market which saw United sell Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez in the summer, while James Wilson is out on loan at Brighton. As a result, he will be desperate for a boost in the second half of the campaign to continue to dismiss the rumours surrounding his future in Manchester.
