Future of Man City, Manchester United target could decide whether Chelsea star exits Stamford Bridge

The futures of Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Borussia Dortmund playmaker Ilkay Gundogan appear to be intrinsically linked as we enter the January transfer window.

Juventus are understood to be keen on both players according to the Express, and have increased their efforts to bring the Borussia Dortmund pass master to Turin.

They had a £22 million bid for the Germany international rejected earlier in the week, but reports in Italy suggest they’ve not been dissuaded by BVB’s stance and will look to up their offer before the end of the window.

Should Dortmund resist Juve’s approaches for Gundogan, or should one of the player’s other suitors—Manchester United, Manchester City [both Metro] and Liverpool have all been linked to the deep-lying creator—move for his signature, the Old Lady may turn her attentions elsewhere.

The Express note that Massimiliano Allegri sees Chelsea powerhouse Nemanja Matic as an ideal January recruit as he looks to continue the reigning Serie A champions’ domestic revival following a miserable start to the season.

While the Serbian midfielder has not been at his best for some time, Blues fans will surely be hoping that Juve succeed in their approach for Gundogan in order to allow the former Benfica man to rediscover his lost lustre at Stamford Bridge.
