Liverpool prepare to hijack Arsenal move for £42m striker

Liverpool are reportedly showing interest in Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and will battle Arsenal for his signature.

The Gabon international has recently been linked with a move to the Emirates, with Arsene Wenger looking to strengthen his squad as the Gunners look to protect their lead at the top of the Premier League this season.

It had even been reported that the club had sent over representatives to open discussions, but Wenger can expect plenty of competition for the prolific striker who has established himself as one of Europe’s best in recent seasons.

According to The Express, Liverpool are also keen on the former AC Milan youth star, and if a move to Anfield materialised it would secure a reunion with former boss Jurgen Klopp who worked with Aubameyang during his stint in charge of Dortmund.

Given that the striker has scored 17 goals in 18 league games this season, it is understood that both clubs understand and accept the £42m price-tag. The 26-year-old evidently guarantees goals, and so he could be a valuable signing that allows either Premier League giant to achieve their objective moving forward.

In contrast, it remains to be seen whether or not Dortmund will allow a sale to go through, but with the substantial fee being touted, it would be difficult for the Bundesliga side to ignore the interest.
