Juventus dealt transfer blow for in-demand Premier League target

Juventus are reportedly making little progress in their bid to sign Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan in the January transfer window.

According to Corriere dello Sport, as reported by Football Italia, the Turin giants had been hoping strengthen their midfield and had targeted the German international as one of their priorities.

Although they haven’t yet given up hope of signing the 25-year-old, it is understood that it is becoming clearer that the Bundesliga side don’t wish to sell the midfielder midway through the season which in turn would suggest that negotiations could continue in the summer.

Nevertheless, with the Serie A giants looking to strengthen this month as they bid to continue their comeback from a disastrous start to the campaign, it may force coach Massimiliano Allegri to look elsewhere.

Juve are currently in the midst of a seven-game winning streak in the league which has moved them to within three points of leaders Inter, and it comes after spending the early part of the season languishing in the bottom half of the standings.

However, if they are forced to wait until the summer to sign Gundogan, then they are likely to face stiff competition from the Premier League with the likes of Liverpool also monitoring the talented midfield ace which could lead to a reunion with his former boss Jurgen Klopp, as noted by The Independent.
