Boost for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp protégé rejects Juventus

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, following reports that the playmaker has rejected Juventus.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport [as per Goal], the reigning Italian champions have made an offer of over €30 million for the player, but that Gundogan himself has rejected the chance to switch to Turin.

Goal report that the international’s decision to turn down a move to Serie A could lead to a contract extension at Dortmund, with Gundogan’s current deal only running up to summer 2017.

However, could the 25-year-old’s decision to remain at BVB for the time being ultimately lead to a transfer to Anfield?

Sportmediaset [as per the Daily Star] have reported that Liverpool are eyeing a £22 million move for the deep-lying schemer, and while Gundogan wasn’t too keen to move to Turin, the tabloid understand that the player’s relationship with Jurgen Klopp—the two won the Bundesliga together in 2012 and reached the Champions League final in 2013—could tempt him to consider a move to Merseyside.
