Manchester United reject set for Old Trafford return despite van Gaal axe

Less than six months after being cut loose by Louis van Gaal, Adnan Januzaj is set for a return to Manchester United.

According to the Mirror, the 20-year-old is on the brink of cutting short his loan move to Borussia Dortmund in order to return to Old Trafford.

Januzaj was deemed surplus to requirements by van Gaal during the summer, and despite impressing in an early Premier League fixture against Aston Villa, he was sent on a season-long loan to BVB.

However, while the youngster impressed in the EPL under David Moyes—a rare ray of light during the Scot’s ill-fated reign—he has wholly failed to make an impact in the Bundesliga.

So scant has the Belgian international’s contribution been—he’s played just 159 minutes in the German top flight—that Dortmund are willing to end his temporary stay prematurely.

The report states that van Gaal would give his blessing to Januzaj’s return, which suggests that the Dutch coach may accept his decision to offload the youngster—with only new signings Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial brought in to replenish a ravaged attack—was the wrong one.

There have been suggestions that Januzaj could be set for a United return when, as presented in the tweet below, the forward was spotted at Old Trafford during the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw with Chelsea.
