Chelsea plotting Arsenal transfer raid as Blues hunt for Eden Hazard replacement

Chelsea are understood to be considering a move for Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who’s being considered as a potential replacement for Eden Hazard.

The Belgian playmaker has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks and months, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain understood to be keen on the attacking midfielder’s services [Daily Mail].

Indeed, Real’s decision to axe Rafael Benitez and replace him with Zinedine Zidane will only see transfer speculation intensify, with the France great known to be an admirer of the ex-LOSC Lille star, as he admitted in April 2015 [Fifa.com].

While Hazard has been a pale comparison of his title-winning self this term, he would still represent a loss, and Chelsea would need to replace his offensive drive and creativity.

Somewhat surprisingly, The Sun suggest that the Blues are considering a move for Arsenal’s England attacker Oxlade-Chamberlain, who they see as a potential replacement for the outbound Belgian.

As noted by the tabloid, however, the Ox doesn’t appear to be a natural choice, with problems of injuries and of confidence leading to him making only 46 league starts for the Gunners, compared to 49 substitute appearances, an indication of his inability to truly establish himself since moving from Southampton.

Nonetheless, the 22-year-old remains an enticing talent, and it could be that a fresh start is just the thing to reignite his flagging career.
