Gotze-Liverpool transfer rumours: Bayern Munich official responds to mounting €50m speculation

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has ridiculed the suggestion that Mario Gotze could be set to leave the German giants for Liverpool.

Writing on his Twitter account @honigstein, established football journalist Raphael Honigstein fuelled speculation that the World Cup winner could be on his way to Anfield during the summer.

“Gotze is certainly injured enough for LFC,” the pundit—who writes for ESPN and The Guardian—began.

“Unlikely to come back before February,” he continued, “but seriously: could well happen in the summer.”

Responding to these rumours, however, Bayern great Sammer has moved to quash any speculation that the playmaker will be leaving the club any time soon.

“Every day there’s more nonsense,” the club legend scoffed, when asked about the speculation by Sport BILD, “that’s all I’ve got to say.”

Despite the manager’s comments, the transfer speculation looks set to run and run, with German publication Bild reporting on their back pages that a €50 million move could be on the cards for the international midfielder during the summer.

In the report, the paper’s reporter Jorg Weiler has insisted that Jurgen Klopp—who oversaw much of Gotze’s progress during his time at Borussia Dortmund—is keen on signing the attacker above and beyond all of the other players with whom he’s been linked this summer.

The player is under contract at Bayern until 2017, and while the player’s future may depend on how things unravel with incoming coach Carlo Ancelotti according to ESPN, Klopp may see a window of opportunity to exploit.
