Chelsea, Real Madrid legend signs for Ligue 1 giants

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele has joined AS Monaco as the club’s technical director.

Monaco confirmed on their website on Thursday that the former international would be joining the club in an administrative capacity, with the job of assisting the current vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, in the compiling of sporting dossiers for the club.

Makelele is a legend in the game, and while his first managerial stint—at SC Bastia last season—ended in misery and dismissal—he still retains an aura within the French game.

He earned 71 caps during his playing career, and while he missed the World Cup triumph of 1998, he was part of the France squad that reached the final of the World Cup eight years later.

The legendary anchor man won two La Liga titles and the 2002 Champions League with Real, as well as two Premier League titles and the FA Cup at Chelsea.
