Arsenal given hope in pursuit of La Liga superstar

Arsenal have reportedly been handed a transfer boost with suggestions that Zinedine Zidane’s appointment at Real Madrid could see Karim Benzema leave.

The Gunners have held a long-standing interest in the French striker, and with Rafael Benitez being replaced by Zidane last week, it remains to be seen what the Madrid icon opts to do with his team moving forward.

While Benitez convinced the 28-year-old to stay at the Bernabeu, Zidane will have choices to make in the coming weeks given the number of attacking options that he has at his disposal.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are expected to be prioritised, but that still leaves the Madrid coach with the likes of Isco, James Rodriguez and Jese to consider.

As a result, it is expected that Benzema could be the player to be sacrificed as Zidane has already moved to dismiss suggestions that either Ronaldo or Bale will be leaving the Spanish capital, as reported by The Telegraph.

Coupled with the alleged blackmail scandal that has seen the former Lyon star banned from the French national team, it is said that Madrid president Florentino Perez has been left disappointed by his star forward.

As a result, Wenger may well be alerted by the latest development and will reignite his interest in his compatriot with a view of giving Arsenal a significant boost in their pursuit of a Premier League title this season.
