Chaos at Ballon d’Or gala as hosts leave mics on by accident

Posted by

The Ballon d’Or gala had its usual moments of levity and awkward moments as footballers went up and down the stage to accept awards in FIFA’s attempt to make the ceremony the Golden Globes of sports. This time however, there was an incredible number of gaffes by the hosts of the event – which was revealed thanks to their microphones being on for all to hear.

During the end of the event, host James Nesbitt invited all of the winners onstage but in an odd moment none of them did. They waved goodbye and the show came to a close – or so we thought. However, the sound guys left Nesbitt and Kate Abdo’s mics on for some reason.

Abdo asked why the players didn’t go to the stage and why she was asked to invite them if the players weren’t informed that they were supposed to do so.

“Are they crazy? Why did they change the second bit of the script?”

Nesbitt answered, “I know, they tried to stop Ronaldo [getting onstage].”

Ultimately, the players did go onto the stage to shake hands and but chaos still reigned:

“Do we do this bit now?” Nesbitt asked Abdo, still confused.

“I don’t know, it’s chaos,” Abdo replied.

Steve Harvey would be proud.
