Chelsea plotting to beat Tottenham to signing of EPL hotshot as possible replacement for £30m targets

Chelsea have become the latest high-profile side to be linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion forward Saido Berahino.

According to the Express, Guus Hiddink is at risk of a striking crisis ahead of the Pensioners’ bout with the Baggies on Wednesday evening, with Radamel Falcao still weeks away from fitness and Loic Remy only feeling his way back into the game after overcoming an ankle complaint.

Without them, the Dutch coach has been left with only Diego Costa, who may have improved in recent fixtures, but who is yet to truly recreate his fine form of last season.

According to the tabloid, the Blues are now considering a move for Berahino, who could represent a considerably cheaper option that some of the other attackers linked to Chelsea during the window.

On Tuesday, the reigning champions were reported to be considering a £60 million double swoop for two South American hitmen.

The Gazzetta dello Sport [via the Express] noted that Hiddink was considering a £30 million move to sign AC Milan attacker Carlos Bacca, while Football Insider [via the Daily Star] reported that the Blues were similarly contemplating a £30 million move for Alex Teixeira.

Should Chelsea despite to plump for Berahino, they face competition in the form of Tottenham Hotspur, with The Sun noting that the player’s “heart is set on White Hart Lane.”

However, Liverpool may yet look to scupper a deal, with the Mirror noting that Jurgen Klopp—growing impatient with Daniel Sturridge’s constant injury concerns—is considering Berahino as a possible replacement for the England international.
