Liverpool debutant delighted as Jurgen Klopp surprises him with new role

Liverpool star Steven Caulker took to Instagram to joke about starring as a striker in his debut for the club on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old has had a dramatic week as just 48 hours ago he was going through a disappointing loan spell at Southampton.

Having been plucked from St. Mary’s by Jurgen Klopp as a result of Liverpool’s defensive injury crisis, he was brought on in the 3-3 draw with Arsenal at Anfield on Wednesday.

With the hosts needing to find an equaliser, the German tactician decided to throw his new arrival on up front, in an attempt to make use of his height in the final third.

Although it was Christian Benteke who got the crucial touch for Joe Allen to volley home the equaliser in injury time, Caulker did manage to win some headers before Klopp had to bark orders out to him to get back into defence.

Nevertheless, the QPR ace was evidently pleased with his contribution in his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt and will hope to break into the team on a more regular basis in the coming weeks…perhaps in his natural position.
