Tottenham & Chelsea face fresh transfer competition for EPL hotshot

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea may have to see off competition from Leicester City if they are to sign West Bromwich Albion forward Saido Berahino.

According to the Mirror, the Foxes have joined the hunt for the Anglo-Burundian forward, and are keen to sign the striker in January as they look to sustain momentum in the title race.

Leicester currently sit second in the table after 21 matches, having amassed 43 points and registered 12 wins to date. They’re currently level on points with leaders Arsenal—behind only on goal difference—and are three ahead of Manchester City.

In midweek they overcame one of their sternest tests yet when they defeated fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane—handing Spurs only their third league loss of the season—and the Foxes remain in fine fettle as they look to maintain their lofty league position.

According to the tabloid, Claudio Ranieri wants a striker and a defender during the transfer window, and sees the Baggies frontman as a potentially ideal option to give his team a mid-season boost.

However, the Foxes—who have already signed Birmingham City’s Demarai Gray so far this window [as per the club’s official website]—may need to see off considerable competition to nab the frontman.

Chelsea, Spurs and Stoke City are named by the Mirror [as above] as potential suitors for the attacker, while the tabloid note that Newcastle United remain keen on the forward, having had a £17 million bid for him rejected during the summer.

Berahino scored 14 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last term, and has scored three in 16 this season, of which only eight outings have been from the start.
