Jurgen Klopp begs Borussia Dortmund ace to join him at Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly asked Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to join him at Anfield, according to Italian publication Calciomercato.

The Reds boss worked with the midfielder during his time in charge at Dortmund, and oversaw the player’s best form following his rise to prominence, and remains a big fan of his to this day.

Recently, despite long standing injury problems, the 25-year-old has been chased by Juventus and Premier League rivals Manchester United, providing some serious competition for his signature.

Klopp remains hopeful of winning the race to secure his services, though, and has even outright asked the player to join him on Merseyside.

Gundogan is out of contract with Dortmund at the end of the season, and Liverpool are hoping to be able to sign him on a free transfer over the summer.

The Germany international has made a total of 24 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring twice.
