Defender tipped to complete Manchester United move during January window

16-year-old centre-back Luca Ercolani is set to complete a move to Manchester United before the end of the transfer window, according to reports.

The Manchester Evening News note that the teenage defender has been on loan at Old Trafford for the last few months, and has seemingly done enough to impress the club’s hierarchy in order to earn a permanent deal at the north-west giants, with the report stating that he has been offered a contract.

The source notes that a transfer fee has yet to be decided for the youngster—who moves from Italian Serie D side Forli—with Fifa set to finalise a figure, considering the player’s age.

Ercolani will surely hope to be more of a success at the club than some of the other Italian teenagers brought to Old Trafford.

As pointed out by the MEN, Giuseppe Rossi, Davide Petrucci and Federico Macheda all moved to the club within the last 12 years, although none of the trio made a truly long-lasting impression at the club, even if the first blossomed into a superb striker and the last enjoyed his moments at the north-west giants.
