Aston Villa close in on loan deal for Arsenal outcast Mathieu Debuchy

Aston Villa are said to be closing in on a loan deal to sign Arsenal full-back Mathieu Debuchy on loan for the remainder of the season, according to French publication L’Equipe.

The 30-year-old has been mostly out of the Arsenal side this season, and had expressed his desire to move on in search of more first team football in order to give himself a chance at regaining his place in the France squad ahead of the Euros this summer.

Italian giants Roma had been interested in bringing him on board, but he has seemingly decided to stay in England after Villa boss Remi Garde promised him that he would be a key member of his squad during the second half of the season.

With Alan Hutton injured, Garde believes that Debuchy is the ideal man to provide cover and extra quality in a defence that has looked shaky over the course of the campaign.

Garde had previously scouted Debuchy when he was in charge at Lyon, but the defender sought to leave Lille for Newcastle in 2013.
