Liverpool line up shock £8m move for Southampton striker Shane Long

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is believed to be weighing up a surprise £8m move for Southampton striker Shane Long in a bid to help solve his side’s goalscoring problem, the Daily Star reports.

Klopp is said to be meticulously running the rule over his injury ravaged squad and knows that he has a striker shortage on his hands going into the second half of the season.

Currently, Christian Benteke is Liverpool’s only fit out and out striker, with injuries to Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi hampering the side, meaning Klopp may decide to try his luck elsewhere.

And thanks to Charlie Austin’s arrival at St. Mary’s this weekend, there could be an opportunity to speak with Long, whose future may now be in doubt at the club.

However, reports in The Sun are also suggesting that Graziano Pelle’s future may be up in the air, with the final decision likely to come down to manager Ronald Koeman.
