Man United ready to smash British transfer record to sign James Rodriguez

Manchester United are believed to be lining up a British transfer record breaking bid to sign Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez, according to reports in The Sun.

Having already broke the British transfer record in the summer of 2014 with the signing of Angel di Maria from Madrid, it is believed that United would need to exceed that offer in order to prize the Colombian international away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Rodriguez enjoyed a strong first season in the Spanish capital, where he earned himself a Ballon d’Or nomination for his good form providing ammunition for the attacking trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, injuries coupled with clashes with former boss Rafa Benitez have restricted him to just seven appearances this term.

Zinedine Zidane’s arrival could give him a route back into the first team, but there are still doubts over whether he will see his long term future at the club.
