Louis van Gaal blocks Manchester United international’s exit plans as EPL side make transfer attempt

Louis van Gaal has refused to allow Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes to complete a move to Newcastle United.

According to the Mirror, the Magpies have attempted to sign the Spanish stopper on loan, as they seek cover for their depleted goalkeeping department.

Tim Krul has been ruled out for the season following a cruciate ligament injury [Sky Sports], and Steve McClaren is understood to be keen on signing cover for Krul’s replacement Rob Elliot.

The tabloid note that Newcastle were primed to offer the stopper an escape route from his miserable spell at Old Trafford, where he has been exiled from the first-team set up under van Gaal.

As noted by the Mirror, there is still animosity between the two men following a bust-up in 2015, and as a result, the Spanish World Cup-winning keeper is being forced to train on his own.

However, any hopes Valdes might have had of leaving Old Trafford before the end of his contract appear to have diminished with the news that LVG has blocked his mooted move to St. James’ Park.

Indeed, the former Barcelona’s switch to Old Trafford has turned into something of a nightmare, with the experienced stopper only making one league start and one EPL showing as a substitute since signing on with the Red Devils in January 2015 [via ManUtd.com].
