Chelsea could still lose Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid in January

Chelsea are reportedly still very much in danger of losing star striker Diego Costa to former club Atletico Madrid before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, according to reports in Spain.

Costa was linked with a return to Madrid earlier in the season, but has since rediscovered his scoring touch with five goals in his previous five appearances under new boss Guus Hiddink, but is still said to be unhappy at the club and is keen to seal a move back to his former stomping ground.

And the report claims that Atleti boss Diego Costa has asked club chiefs to press ahead with the signing as he is worried that the upcoming transfer embargo they are facing will mean that a deal to sign the 27-year-old will be now or never.

Atletico have been handed the punishment by FIFA for irregularities in signing players under the age of 18, and both they and Real will not be allowed to sign anyone for the next two transfer windows after the current one closes.
