Manchester United star wants to become Old Trafford legend, despite Real Madrid rumours

Despite Real Madrid‘s reported intentions to revive their interest in Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, the stopper has insisted he wants to become a legend at Old Trafford.

According to the Independent, Los Merengues are undeterred by their recent Fifa ban which bans them from registering players until the 2017-18 season and intend to revive their interest in De Gea this summer, despite failing to sign him during the 2015 summer transfer window.

The report states that the club’s hierarchy are confident of having their ban overturned, and are plotting to wait until the summer before moving for the Spain goalkeeper once again.

However, the player himself may not be willing to end his stay at Old Trafford, having recently signed a new deal to extend his contact with the Old Trafford heavyweights.

Speaking to Sky Sports [as per the Daily Star], the international—who shone again as Louis van Gaal’s side dispatched Liverpool on Sunday—has insisted that he wants to stay with the Red Devils and wants to become a club legend.

“I’m happy, I’m enjoying it and I believe in the team,” De Gea insisted. “[Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van der Sar] were the greatest goalkeepers in the Premier League, they are legends for this club and that is what I want.

“I train every day to be the best goalkeeper in the world, that is my aim.

“I’m not sure who the best is now, but it’s what I want. Also, to win trophies for Manchester United.”
