Manchester United open talks to sign £6.1m South American Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs transfer target

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.

According to the Metro [citing Tribal Football], the Red Devils are keen to bolster their offensive options ahead of the second portion of the season as they look to both break back into the top four and, potentially, challenge Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester City for the Premier League title.

However, while Wayne Rooney is currently enjoying an increasingly rare purple patch, big-money summer signings Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial have failed to truly demonstrate that they can be key contributors for the Red Devils as Louis van Gaal’s side look to improve their league position.

The report insists that United officials travelled to Paris on Friday in order to discuss a £6.1 million deal with PSG to bring the Argentine attacker to Old Trafford this January.

However, while United are hoping to seal a deal in the coming days, they may yet face considerable competition for the forward’s services, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Chelsea all understood to be keen on signing the South American veteran.
