Simon Mignolet has drawn heavy criticism from Liverpool fans over the past few weeks. Despite improvements in many areas, multiple games have been blown due to poor goaltending from the 27-year-old Belgian. Needless to say, when the Reds decided to “reward” Mignolet with a brand new contract extension, fans reacted quickly and angrily.
Liverpool posted the photo of Mignolet signing the new deal – and the immediate response from Twitter followers consisted mostly of sheer outrage and confusion:

Mignolet is currently tied for fifth in the Premier League with seven clean sheets – equaling David de Gea, Hugo Lloris, and Boaz Myhill, while trailing Petr Cech and Joe Hart who each have nine.
The 1-0 loss to Manchester United over the weekend resulted in a stay at ninth place.
Since joining Liverpool in 2013, Mignolet has missed only a handful of matches.
