Eight of the final ten clubs in the FA cup fourth round draw will be confirmed on Tuesday as the third round replays take place.
Two Premier League sides will be out to secure their place in the hat with basement club Aston Villa at home to Wycombe and West Bromwich Albion traveling to face Bristol City.
Villa drew 1-1 at Adam’s Park, a game that has acted as a catalyst for an upturn in form. Since that clash, which saw fans confront players at the end, Villa have beaten Crystal Palace and drawn with Leicester.
Although Villa look doomed to go down, boss Remi Garde believes his message is getting through, according to ESPN.
The Villa manager commented:
You ask if it took a while to get across to my players what I wanted to do and probably it did. And maybe my message did not go through to everybody. But now I find people who understand my message,” said Garde.
“The way we played, the spirit we showed and the way we have come through a difficult period in the last two games has pleased me. They were not easy because we were up against teams who were full of confidence, when we were not.
“I’m very happy with the way we’ve played the last two games. It pleased me a lot because it means that the players I picked have a good attitude
West Bromwich Albion meanwhile needed a 90th minute goal from James Morrison to get their 2nd bite of the Cherry. The club led 1-0 at half-time but two goals in the final 16 minutes put the Robins on the brink of a shock before Morrison rescued the situation.
The Baggies lost 3-0 to Southampton at the weekend but prior to that set-back on the South Coast were unbeaten in four. Bristol City will be manager-less for the clash after sacking Steve Cotterill. The club beat Middlesbrough 1-0 at the weekend for their first win in 7 games but remain in the bottom three of the Championship.
Elsewhere it will be a packed house in Fratton Park as Portsmouth take on Championship side Ipswich while Eastleigh, the only non-league side left in the competition will hope for a major shock when they take on Bolton at the Macron Stadium.
The two sides drew 1-1 at the Silverlake Stadium with Darren Pratley salvaging a replay for Bolton with 3 minutes to go. Eastleigh have lost both games since the cup tie.
Championship sides Reading and Huddersfield will meet at the Madejski Stadium while the night’s other games sees Bradford host Bury and Yeovil take on Carlisle.
