Chelsea outcast set to end nightmare at Stamford Bridge with loan move

Chelsea ace Papy Djilobodji is expected to leave the club to join Werder Bremen on loan until the end of the season.

According to Bild, Bremen’s CEO Thomas Elchin has confirmed that they are interested in making the deal happen, with the 27-year-old failing to make an impact with the Premier League champions since his arrival in the summer.

It is reported that Chelsea paid around £2.7m for his services when signing him from Nantes last September, but the versatile centre-back hasn’t been able to break into the first team under either former boss Jose Mourinho or current coach Guus Hiddink.

In turn, it has led to suggestions that he could be forced to look elsewhere for opportunities, and it has led to Bremen opening negotiations with the Blues over a deal in the next fortnight.

Bremen are expected to pay a €400,000 loan fee for the defender, who is set to arrive in Germany on Wednesday in order to complete the formalities of the switch, as per Bild.

The Senegal international will hope the move can reinvigorate his career after a frustrating last few months, as he had previously helped Nantes to promotion in 2013 and made 59 appearances in Ligue 1.

His exit may well spur Chelsea into action in the January transfer window, as they continue to search for long-term solutions at the back.
