Manchester United hero Nemanja Vidic has been released by Inter after the two parties agreed on a mutual termination of his contract.

The Serbian international joined the Nerazzurri at the start of last season, but a lack of form and injuries ensured that he wasn’t able to have the desired effect at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Having failed to play a single game so far this season, the club has now confirmed that he has been released from his contract.

“FC Internazionale announces that it has reached an agreement with Nemanja Vidic for the mutual termination of his contract,” a statement on the club’s website read.

“The Serbian defender, with Inter since July 2014 racked up 28 appearances in Nerazzurro last season, scoring once.”

While Vidic also thanked the club and the supporters as well as wishing them good luck in the future, it remains to be seen where he opts to move to next.

Previous reports have suggested that he could be interested in a move to MLS with DC United, although there will be several European clubs who will still believe that he can offer something.

As a result, he will likely have a busy fortnight ahead as he will undoubtedly hope to reach a decision and agreement by the end of the January transfer window.
