Video: Jurgen Klopp suggests goalscorer likely to leave Liverpool

Joao Teixeira started and scored for Liverpool last night as they survived their FA Cup third-round replay with Exeter City. But it might have been one of his last appearances for the Reds.

Manager Jurgen Klopp seemed to suggest in his post-match press conference that the 23-year-old midfielder needs to play regular football and will not find it at Anfield, as the below video shows.

Teixeira got a rare opportunity as Klopp rested most of his regulars for the 3-0 victory over the League Two minnows, in which Joe Allen and youngster Sheyi Ojo also got on the scoresheet.

But the Portuguese appears no closer to a first-team breakthrough than when he joined from Sporting Lisbon in 2013. He has only one Premier League substitute appearance to his name – in February 2014.

There would probably be some loan takers for Teixeira in the Championship. He showed that he can perform at that level with six goals in 27 starts for Brighton & Hove Albion last season.

It could be one Teixeira in and one Teixeira out at Anfield before the end of the January window. The Reds have made an approach for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira, according to BBC Sport.
