Chelsea set aside £50m for final move to sign long-standing transfer target

Chelsea have reportedly set aside £50million in order to make one final big push to sign long-standing target John Stones from Everton, according to talkSPORT.

The Blues spent the entire summer chasing the England international, and made four separate bids for his signature, which were all emphatically knocked back by the Toffees, who refused to sell.

However, that hasn’t dampened their interest in the player, and the report claims that a new offer is in the pipeline, and the Blues will test Roberto Martinez’s resolve with a new offer of £50m.

With John Terry now in the twilight of his career, and Kurt Zouma looking like he’s not ready to replace him, the Chelsea hierarchy are keen to bring Stones on board to fill the gap and partner Gary Cahill in the heart of the defence.

But the move won’t kick on until the summer, as the Blues feel that a bid of that magnitude won’t go through with such little time in the January window left to complete it.
