Liverpool U21s 2-0 Spurs U21s – match highlights: Townsend upstaged, Glover embarrassed

Andros Townsend was the biggest name on the teamsheet as Tottenham Hotspur visited Liverpool in the Barclays U21 Premier League on Monday night.

However, designated oldie Townsend was upstaged by many of the Liverpool youngsters who impressed in last week’s FA Cup win over Exeter.

Ryan Kent – using his weaker foot – opened the scoring in a 2-0 win for the Reds.

Kent’s free kick embarrassed goalkeeper Tom Glover, who can have no excuse for being beaten by such a tame effort.

Although Kent’s goal – which came on 13 minutes – was pretty ugly, his overall performance was excellent.

However, Kent was outshone by Sheyi Ojo, who ran the show and set up Jerome Sinclair for a really easy goal just before the hour mark.

The game was a tidy one for the most part, with Liverpool’s nice passing keeping the quality high.

A couple of rash moments saw Liverpool end the game with 10 men though, with Kevin Stewart seeing red against his former club for picking up two soft yellow cards.
