Stats: Chelsea midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Obi Mikel emerging as best passers of 2016

Chelsea have gained considerable distance from the relegation zone they once hovered over under Jose Mourinho, and their performance under new manager Guus Hiddink has brought out the best in some of the club’s struggling players – particularly midfielders Cesc Fabregas and John Obi Mikel.

According to stats from Squawka Football, Fabregas and Obi Mikel are the No. 1 and No. 2 most successful passers in the Premier League respectively since the start of 2016. Per the numbers, Fabregas has 299 successful passes while Obi Mikel has 272. Third was Stoke City midfielder Ibrahim Afellay with 255.

Chelsea have been undefeated in the Premier League since Guus Hiddink took over for fired manager Jose Mourinho in late December. This past weekend they completed the double against Arsenal, holding the third-place Gunners scoreless in a 1-0 victory at Emirates Stadium.

Fabregas also had a goal and an assist in the Blues’ 3-3 draw against Everton two weeks ago, while Obi Mikel has seen his playing time increase significantly under the new regime.
