Arsenal fail in bid to bolster midfield as Napoli reject offer for influential ace

Arsenal have reportedly been told to forget about signing Napoli star Jorginho this week as the Gunners continue to search for midfield reinforcements.

The 24-year-old has become an integral part of Maurizio Sarri’s side, as they continue to sit top of the Serie A table after making an impressive start in the first half of the campaign.

Jorginho has made 19 appearances this season, and his form has attracted interest from Europe with Arsenal seeing a bid rejected by the Partenopei, according to Tuttomercatoweb, as noted by Football Italia.

Although no fee was disclosed by the website, it is claimed that Napoli have insisted that they have no interest in selling their prized asset and have made it clear that the Gunners will fail in any further bids that they decide to make.

However, their stance could change at the end of the season depending on Sarri’s vision for the team, but for now the midfielder will remain in Naples.

If the reports are true though, it will come as a setback for Arsene Wenger as he continues to look to strengthen his squad in their bid to maintain their Premier League title push.

With Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin missing a significant part of the campaign due to injury, the French tactician has been light of options in midfield and addressed it with the signing of Mohamed Elneny earlier this month.

Whether or not he is able to add more depth this week remains to be seen, but it doesn’t look as though Jorginho will be providing it.
