Stoke have it all to do as they visit Anfield seeking a first League Cup final since 1972.
The Potters trail 1-0 from the first leg and will be missing key defender Ryan Shawcross for the trip.
Add to the fact Liverpool have never lost a League Cup semi-final after winning the first leg away and Stoke have not won at Anfield in any competition since March 1959, going 36 visits without a victory the odds would appear to be against Mark Hughes and his side.
The former Fulham manager is not letting that dampen his enthusiasm however telling reporters in the pre-game press conference “We are going to really push for it. You always remember cup finals and semi-finals because of the excitement and the atmosphere and we want to make it a night to remember.
“Hopefully come 10pm on Tuesday we will be in the final of this competition for the first time in 40-odd years, and I will be reminding the players of that before kick-off.”
While Hughes will be without influential defender Shawcross as well as Geoff Cameron, he will have Marko Arnautovic and Bojan Krkic available with the pair set to start.
Liverpool meanwhile are League Cup royalty.
The 8 times winners are chasing a record 12th final appearance and have players coming into form at the right time.
Jordan Ibe with 2 goals and an assist in his last two league cup games, including the winner at the Britannia last time and Roberto Firmino, 4 goals in his last three games are likely to lead the line for the Reds.
While the defensive side of Liverpool’s game has come under scrutiny, the return of Jon Flanagan, in for the injured Nathaniel Clyne, will add some Scouse steel to the team.
Steve Caulker is cup-tied and won’t feature while Dejan Lovren is unlikely to return despite resuming training after a hamstring injury.
For Liverpool, tonight’s match looks an ideal opportunity to make something of a somewhat disappointing season, and with a trip to Wembley on the cards there’s little doubt that Jurgen Klopp will be looking to complete the job at Anfield.
The Reds are a 4/6 shot to win at home, while Stoke can be backed at a decent looking price of 5/1.
Whataver the result, it should prove an entertaining encounter with the Potters having no option other than to attach from the offset.
Liverpool will be looking to build on confidence and Roberto Firmino will be looking to continue his goalscoring record of recent weeks.
