One might have thought that Tottenham Hotspur fans would panic upon learning that first-choice centre-back Jan Vertonghen is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Spurs confirmed today that the Belgian has suffered medial ligament damage. Reports claim that he could be out for any time between three weeks and three months.

Vertonghen’s pairing with compatriot Toby Alderweireld has helped Spurs to the best defensive record in the division and has been pivotal in making them title outsiders.
Kevin Wimmer is Vertonghen’s natural deputy at White Hart Lane. The 23-year-old has yet to make a Premier League start for Tottenham since his summer arrival.
But Spurs supporters on Twitter seem to have full confidence in the Austrian to step in for Vertonghen based on his five appearances in cup competitions this season.
Again football is a squad game and injuries happen, I've got faith in Wimmer to step in and do a great job

#thfc Been impressed by Wimmer when he's played and he's probably been unlucky to have had so few opportunities.

@Jack_Murray17 I think Wimmer can so the job. No need for despair just yet

Sad news about Vertonghen's injury, but Wimmer has been brilliant when called up on. Feel very safe with him and Toby at the back. #coys
