Barcelona give up on signing Arsenal transfer target; could Wenger swoop?

According to reports in Spain, Barcelona have given up hopes of signing Celta Vigo hitman Nolito, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

According to Marca, the Catalan giants—who have been linked to the Spanish forward for several months—have given up on bringing the 29-year-old to the Nou Camp during the ongoing window.

While Barca had made an agreement with the player himself, Celta are understood to have nixed the move as the reigning Spanish champions have been unwilling to meet the striker’s buyout clause and their compromised offers have not been deemed adequate enough.

Barca’s attempts to recruit the player on a loan deal with a view to buy were also rejected, which may well open the door for Arsenal to swoop.

The Gunners have also been linked with Nolito, and while they may have struggled to compete with Barca for the player’s attention, they may now have free rein to move for the hotshot who, with eight goals so far in this La Liga season, could be the ideal addition to see the north-London heavyweights over the line in the title race.
