Manchester United anxious club legend could quit if Louis van Gaal is axed & he’s overlooked

According to reports, Manchester United are concerned that Ryan Giggs could quit Old Trafford should he be overlooked for the managerial role in the event of Louis van Gaal‘s dismissal.

The Mirror note that the club’s hierarchy are worried that the club legend may be tempted to end his 28-year association with the Old Trafford giants and move elsewhere should he not be given the top job after LVG’s departure.

According to the tabloid, Giggs—currently assistant manager at United—would be one of the pre-eminent contenders to replace the Dutch coach should van Gaal’s troubled tenure at Old Trafford come to an end.

However, he wouldn’t be the only contender for the role, and celebrated ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire for the job, indeed, even going as far as to write a six-page letter to United bosses outlining why he would be the ideal man to replace the Dutch manager [according to the Independent].

However, the Mirror question whether Giggs would be happy to continue as a No. 2 under Mourinho—or any other new manager—without being given assurances about his future role at Old Trafford.

United currently sit fifth in the Premier League under LVG, and were beaten 1-0 by Southampton at the weekend following a lacklustre showing at home.
