Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is reportedly keen on quitting the club, and the speculation has ensured that he has appeared on Roma’s transfer radar.

As reported by The Guardian, the reigning Premier League champions are likely to reject the England international’s request to leave.

It comes as the club’s vice-captain has lost his place in the side this side this season, with Kurt Zouma establishing himself as John Terry’s partner in the heart of the Chelsea defence.

In turn, it raised doubts over his future at Stamford Bridge, and it appears as though Roma are ready to take advantage of the situation, according to Il Messaggero.

The Giallorossi are looking to strengthen their defence this week with Luciano Spalletti looking to oversee an upturn in form after replacing Rudi Garcia earlier this month.

The Italian tactician will be desperate to secure Champions League football next season, but the capital club are currently in concerning form as they sit six points adrift of third-placed Fiorentina.

Meanwhile, according to the Italian publication, as noted by Football Italia, there are concerns over Cahill’s wage demands as he will have to lower his €5m per season expectations in order to comply with the salary structure in place at the Stadio Olimpico.

While Chelsea are set to refuse him the chance to leave the club, it remains to be seen if he pushes for a switch before the transfer deadline or waits until the summer to resolve his future.
