Twitter: Chelsea miss out on possible Gary Cahill replacement as Liverpool transfer target signs for Sampdoria

Andrea Ranocchia has completed his loan move from Inter Milan to fellow Serie A side Sampdoria.

According to reports, the Italy centre-back has completed a temporary switch to the Genoa-based club, and will see out the rest of the season with his new club.

The player passed his medical at the club on Thursday morning, before being introduced to his new teammates in the afternoon.

In recent seasons, Ranocchia has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Chelsea and Everton understood to be keen on his services.

Indeed, the Blues could certainly do with the towering stopper at the moment, having lost Papy Djilobodji and with Gary Cahill understood to have grown frustrated with life at Stamford Bridge.

Only months ago, Everton were also understood to be keen on the centre-back, with reports suggesting that the Toffees were eyeing a move for the Inter player should John Stones complete his long-mooted move to Chelsea.

Liverpool have also been tipped for a move for the defender since the beginning of the year, in light of their recent injury crisis.

With Jeison Murillo and Joao Miranda established as the first-choice pairing in Lombardy, it had become increasingly difficult for Ranocchia to get game time in Serie A, although it remains to be seen whether either Chelsea or Everton will regret not moving for the big man.
