Chelsea target £16m Valencia defender as part of squad shake up

Chelsea are said to be lining up a move for £16million-rated Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour as part of an ongoing squad shake up, according to the Daily Star.

The Blues had reportedly been keen on the Tunisian international while he was with French giants Monaco, but have maintained their interest in his services despite losing out on him to Valencia.

The 26-year-old linked up with the Spaniards over the summer, but has so far failed to repay the £16m fee with a series of lacklustre performances. A hamstring injury has also prevented him from rediscovering his best form.

Following on from Gary Cahill’s admission that he could move on from Stamford Bridge to save his career, the club could take advantage of Abdennour’s situation after learning that Valencia could be willing to listen to offers.

Cahill is wary of losing his place in the England side for this summer’s European Championship, and with John Terry’s contract running down there could be a massive shake up on the cards in West London.
