Everton see £13m bid for prolific Man United target REJECTED

Everton have reportedly seen a £13million bid for Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani rejected by the Portuguese giants, according to the Daily Star.

The Algerian international has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs since the World Cup in 2014, but Portuguese publication Record has claimed that Sporting rejected the Toffees’ approach because they feel he is on the verge of leading them to their first league title in over a decade.

The 27-year-old has notched an impressive 20 goals in 29 appearances so far this term, leading the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Crystal Palace and West Ham to monitor him closely.

However, in June he penned a new contract that keeps him in Lisbon until 2020, but he has a £22million release clause that can be activated during the summer months.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez sold forward Steven Naismith to Norwich for £8.5m earlier in the month giving him money to spend, and despite Romelu Lukaku’s hot form this term he has recognised that he needs another striker to keep his quest for a top four finish on track.
