Kelechi Nwakali choses Arsenal squad number to honour national hero

Imminent Arsenal signing Kelechi Nwakali has apparently already picked out which shirt number he will wear when he officially joins the club, according to the London Evening Standard.

Reports emerged on Friday morning claiming that the Nigerian youth international is flying to London to complete his move to the club, which could be announced at some point over the weekend.

International colleague Samuel Chukwueze is also believed to be set to follow soon after, but Nwakali has reportedly already selected his squad number.

It is understood that Nwakali will wear the number 25 shirt, which was made popular by former Gunner and fellow Nigerian superstar Nwankwo Kanu.

Kanu arrived at Arsenal way back in 1999, and went on to make 119 appearances for the Gunners during a five-year stay, scoring 30 goals.

He managed to play his part in two league titles and two FA Cup wins during his time there, and the Gunners will be hoping this youngster will be able to have a similar impact.
