Arsenal transfer news: International wideman having talks with club

According to reports, Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy began talks with Aston Villa to discuss a move to Villa Park on Friday evening.

As reported by the Mirror, the right-back was discussing a loan deal which would see the French international remain with the Villains until the season’s end.

The tabloid note that Midlands heavyweights will have to pay £1.5 million to the Gunners, and will take on the player’s £60,000-per-week wages.

Earlier in the week, the Mirror reported that the defender had been informed that he was free to leave the Emirates Stadium, with the tabloid noting that both Villa and Sunderland had made offers for the player’s services.

Debuchy moved to Arsenal from Newcastle United after impressing with the Magpies in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

However, he has never truly established himself at Arsenal since moving in 2014, featuring just 10 times for the Gunners in the Premier League last season, and only twice this term, with the impressive Hector Bellerin blocking his path to the first team.

Debuchy will likely need a strong end to the season if he is to force his way into Didier Deschamps’ plans for the 2016 European Championships on home soil this summer.
