CONFIRMED: Man City beat off Chelsea & Manchester United to Guardiola signing

Posted by

According to reports, Manchester City saw off competition from both Chelsea and Manchester United to secure the signing of Pep Guardiola.

The Citizens confirmed on Monday that the Bayern Munich coach—who will be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the campaign—will be replacing Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium at the season’s end.

The Spanish coach revealed earlier in the season that he would be leaving Bavaria at the end of the season, and has subsequently been at the centre of a whirlpool of speculation, particularly after having confirmed that he would be heading to the Premier League.

Chelsea, who currently are without a permanent coach after dismissing Jose Mourinho in December, would love to recruit a manager of Pep’s prestige, while United were understood to have met with the former midfielder in Paris as they consider a future beyond the unimpressive Louis van Gaal.

Goal have confirmed that both domestic giants were keen on the manager, only to have been spurned by Guardiola who—perhaps tempted by the presence of sporting director Txiki Begiristain, a former Barcelona colleague—has plumbed for City.
