Possible John Terry successor wants to win trophy for departing captain

21-year-old defender Kurt Zouma has as good a chance as any Chelsea player to become the Blues’ next leader on defence once John Terry leaves at the end of the season. The young back believes that Chelsea can make a push for a title victory as a send-off for the Blues legend.

‘We want to give everything for the fans, for everybody,’ Zouma said, per the Evening Standard.

‘But now we want to do well for John as well because he has done very well since he started at Chelsea and we want to win something for him.’

Chelsea will face significant obstacles towards getting any silverware in the 2015-16 season. They were eliminated from the Capital One Cup months ago, will face Manchester City in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, and are 19 points below Leicester City for the Premier League title. As for their Champions League ambitions, the Blues will face Paris Saint-Germain – who had the fewest goals allowed in the Group Stage – in the Round of 16.

The Blues won the Premier League and League Cup titles last year, but a stunningly-slow start to their 2015-16 campaign resulted in manager Jose Mourinho getting fired and major shake-ups to the starting lineup.

Terry has played 18 seasons at Chelsea and was capped 78 times for England from 2003 to 2012.
