(Video) Leicester 2-0 Liverpool – Watch highlights as Vardy scores world-class brace!

Our friends at Empire of the Kop have produced a rather subdued match-report after the brilliant Jamie Vardy put their side Liverpool to the sword tonight in the Premier League.

A brace made it 18 for the season for Vardy, who put on a show in front of watching England boss Roy Hodgson.

Liverpool were shoddy again, and looked like a mid-table outfit while the Foxes were again excellent.

Liverpool fell to a defeat against the Premier League leaders tonight at the King Power Stadium, losing 2-0 to Leicester City.

We had 64% possession, 14 shots and 12 corners. Only two of our efforts were on target though – totally outlining our problem right now.

A brace from Jamie Vardy sealed the game for the home side, despite the fact that we were looking comfortable beforehand.

Jurgen Klopp rang plenty of changes from the side which drew with West Ham in the FA Cup, but our fresh legs weren’t up to scratch.

Sakho and Moreno came back into the back four to join Clyne and Lovren, but the rest of the starting XI was completely changed – with Lucas anchoring, Henderson and Can either side, and Lallana and Milner flanking Firmino.

Leicester started very sharply, creating opportunities through the pace and ferocity of Vardy and Okazaki.

Mignolet also pulled off a fine save from Drinkwater, and it took us until ten minutes before we carved anything out whatsoever – where Can’s close-range attempt was ruled marginally offside.

To Liverpool’s credit, the side came back into the game and dominated possession throughout the majority of the half.

We earned a number of corners, but naturally – didn’t do anything with them – preferring to often go short than even deliver something into the box.

Mignolet then made another world-class save from a 35-yard Mahrez effort, but then fumbled at a cross one minute later: 60 seconds that truly summed up the Belgian as a keeper.

Moreno blasted over from close-range on the 40th minute mark and that was largely that for another uninspiring first-half.

Leicester probably had the better chances, but Liverpool were doing ‘ok’ – without being clinical in the final third.

Our domination of possession continued, with Lucas blasting over and Moreno firing a cross in which almost caught out Schmeichel.

But then the game changed in a moment of genius, with Mahrez feeding Vardy who went and scored a goal of the season contender.

Shooting on the half-volley, Vardy smashed over Mignolet’s head from far out on the right-hand side of the box.

There’s not much anyone can do about that.

Vardy was getting ready to pen a new contract today, and he celebrated it with another straight away – putting the game completely to bed.

The striker found space past Can after a defensive mix-up and slotted home with his left-foot.

If Liverpool had someone anywhere near as clinical we could’ve won this game tonight.

The game fizzled out, with Benteke, Allen and Teixeira unable to influence the result.
