Chelsea drop Radamel Falcao from Champions League squad

Chelsea have removed struggling striker Radamel Falcao from their squad to take part in the knockout stages of the Champions League, their official website reports.

The 29-year-old only joined the club eight months ago, but has struggled for form and fitness so far and has not met manager Guus Hiddink’s criteria for making the squad in the second half of the campaign.

So far, the Colombian international has managed just one goal in 11 appearances, and has been sacrificed for January arrivals Alexandre Pato and Matt Miazga instead.

Once recognised as one of the world’s most fearsome strikers, he has seemingly now slipped down the pecking order in west London, and though he may still get his chances to impress in the Premier League and the FA Cup, it would appear that opportunities for him to get on the pitch with any sort of regularity now seems few and far between.
