Chelsea star ready to quit just one year on from joining

Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is said to be ready to quit the club at the end of the season, according to reports in The Sun.

The 28-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge over the summer in a £10.9million move from Stoke as a replacement for the departed Petr Cech, but has been unable to dislodge Thibaut Courtois as the club’s first choice stopper.

An injury to the Belgian international earlier in the season saw Begovic enjoy an extended run in between the sticks, but since Courtois’ return to fitness he was dropped just as quickly as he was brought in.

The Bosnian has played just once under Guus Hiddink, and is now said to be ready to move on at the end of the season having grown frustrated at his lack of regular game time.

Should he leave, he would surely have no shortage of offers, but his departure would be overshadowed by that of John Terry, who looks to be the club’s most high profile departure.
