Championship leaders Hull City can consolidate their position at the top of the table today when they travel to take on third place Burnley.
The Tigers are currently four points ahead of their weekend rivals and have already beaten this season, running out 3-0 winners at the Kingston Communication Stadium on Boxing Day.
The league leaders have been in superb form of late and won all four of their Championship fixtures in January, the 12 points collected moving them a point clear of Middlesbrough at the summit.
The club’s form was rewarded in the monthly Football league awards with Manager Steve Bruce and forward Abel Hernandez securing the managerial and player titles.
Bruce was named the Manager of the Month while Hernandez picked up the Player award after scoring six goals in four games.
In addition to finding space on his mantel piece for the manager award, Bruce must also decide on whether Michael Dawson, back from injury starts ahead of the impressive Harry Maguire.
Bruce also has other big decisions to make with additional battles for starting spots seeing Alec Bruce go up against Curtis Davies and David Mayler take on Isaac Hayden.
Nick Powell could come into the side after moving to the club from Manchester United on loan while new signing Dusan Kuciak will have to wait for his chance to shine with Allan McGregor set to come back in for Eldin Jakupovic after being rested for the cup win over Bury.
Hull player Sam Clucas emphasised the importance of continuing their run, telling the official Hull website:
“Burnley are just below us in the table and will be a big threat.
They will be right up there come the end of the season but if we do beat them tomorrow then we’d go seven points clear of them with a game in hand and that would be a nice gap to try and build on.
“I think people have underestimated the significance of the game a little when you think of the gap we can create for ourselves.
“We’re in a great position at the minute and the league table shows that. It’s all about this month now and kicking on from there because it doesn’t matter what has gone on in the past now.
“We’ve got a tough month coming up with tough games and we’ve got to take our form into those games.
“It’s a big month coming up and our away form hadn’t been the best which we’ve managed to put right in the last couple of weeks.
“We’ve got a massive game at the weekend against Burnley and then some big tests coming up – we’ll be able to assess ourselves better at the end of the month.”
Chuba Akpom hit a hat-trick in that game and that should ensure he partners Hernandez up front.
Burnley meanwhile could include new signing James Tarkowski in their squad. The defender completed his protracted move from Brentford on Monday when he signed for an undisclosed fee although Sean Dyche could opt to stick with the men that have guided his side to a 7 game unbeaten run.
A busy top half of activity is completed as Nottingham Forest travel to Yorkshire to face Leeds at Elland Road while Wolverhampton Wanderers take on inconsistent Reading.
Elsewhere relegation battlers Charlton and Bristol City meet in a crucial six pointer while bottom of the table Bolton are also involved in a massive relegation head to head as they take on Rotherham.
Finally Huddersfield Town, 3-2 losers at Cardiff last weekend, take on Preston.
