Man United to shell out £46m for Portugal wonderkid this summer

Manchester United have set or broken the teenage transfer record three times in the last ten years for Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial – striking gold each time. This summer, however, the Red Devils have an opportunity to break it again for Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches.

According to the Metro, Man United are believed to have offered £30.7 million in cash for the 18-year-old midfielder, with another £15.3 million available in future payments for milestones and incentive bonuses. The sum total of the deal would match the alleged £46 million price tag the Portuguese giants have placed on their young star.

Sanches has been featured ten times for the Benfica first team this season after spending the majority of his playing career with Benfica B in Segunda Liga. He has been capped significantly for the Portugal youth teams but has yet to play for the national team with Cristiano Ronaldo.

This past summer, Man United shattered the teenage transfer record to acquire AS Monaco striker Anthony Martial for an estimated £36 million – reaping the benefits immediately as he earned Premier League Player of the Month honors in the first few weeks of his England debut.
