Video: Jesse Lingard scores Man United’s goal of the year to take 1-0 lead vs. Chelsea

Jesse Lingard‘s name isn’t usually the first when talking about the best scoring threats at Manchester United, but until someone makes another absolute worldie like the one Lingard made against Chelsea this afternoon, his doubters may want to reconsider that position.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, the breakdown in the defence occurred just moments after start centre-back Kurt Zouma went down in one of the most gruesome leg injuries we’ve seen all season. Though Gary Cahill has been more than capable of performing at a high level on most occasions, today just wasn’t one of them and a mess in the middle allowed Lingard to receive a flawless pass from Wayne Rooney that he converted with a behind the back top right corner shot.

The goal gave Man United a 1-0 lead and forced Chelsea to use their third and final substitution to get a spark from the struggling midfield.

The Red Devils have already seen the incredible emergence of Anthony Martial and the near-unfathomable return to his younger form from Wayne Rooney – perhaps this will be the start of a new Jesse Lingard as well.
